Walking & Hiking
Walking and hiking
Just minutes away from the Coromandel’s best accommodation are some of the region’s best walking tracks, meandering through the bush and around the coast with unbeatable views of the bay. Try the Shakespeare Headland Track where you can walk or cycle to the lookout, take a dip at the sandy Lonely Bay or enjoy a picnic overlooking the water.
The Ferry Landing to Shakespeare Cliff walk is a popular track and can be completed in one to two hours, depending on the route you choose to take. Explore a historical pa site, walk among spectacular native trees and take in the views of the neighbouring Whitianga township.
If you’re eager to venture further afield and have a full-day walking experience, the Coromandel Coastal Walkway is a must-do. The three-and-a-half-hour walk requires a reasonable level of fitness, but the walk between Fletcher and Stony Bays is one of New Zealand’s finest. Farmland, coastal forest, soaring clifftops and remote, rocky bays abound—there is plenty to enjoy on this walking adventure.
What our previous guests have said
Mercury Ridge is a WONDERFUL place to stay. We don’t normally stay at resorts that only serve breakfast, but Jo and Tom’s lodge is exceptional.

What a fantastic stay! Hosts are extraordinary welcoming, warm and friendly! We didn't feel like guests but rather as part of the family. Great breakfast,
Peter, Germany
This was the perfect venue for our daughter's wedding. From the panoramic views to the colourful, well-maintained gardens the Mediterranean feel abounds.
